Many of our rotameters are manufactured in the UK and used successfully in the veterinary, scientific, water treatment, gas and oil production, human medical anesthesia, aviation, pharmaceutical, pollution control, scientific analysis, education, and many other areas. Rotameters have advantages over traditional flow meters. They are a simple device that is easy to install and maintain while offering the flexibility of a linear scale, low-pressure drop and a good measuring range. This makes the rotameter one of the most popular flowmeters in the market.

Often the simplest flow meter is the best flow meter because with simplicity comes the ease of operation and fewer parts to wear and be replaced. The rotameter is based on the simple variable area principle. The float moves up or down in a tapered tube due to the buoyancy and velocity head of the liquid. For gas, the velocity head alone causes the float to rise or fall. In most cases rotameters or variable area flow meters need to be mounted in a vertical position because they work by gravity. But there are options, e.g., spring-loaded, and some other Rotameters can be mounted in a horizontal plane.

For selection purposes you will need to know some application details, such as the product to be metered, minimum and maximum flow rate, nominal pipe diameter, operating temperature & pressure and if the application requires a valve for flow regulation.
